hi there, my eastern/Australian water dragon of a year old is not eating...it has only been about five days but i was wondering if that is normal due to the winter cold. the heat lamps are not going as hot because of the change of room temperature. in summer it was between 25-30 C, but now its dropped to about 16-17C.
is that ok? will she eat when she feels like it? she is still running around lots but just not eating. |

RE: WINTER SLOW DOWN?
Hi
I'm having/worrying about the same 'problem.' My dragon is kept outside and it is completely not interested in food at the moment. If they are anything like the native lizards, this is normal, as eating decreases substantially over the winter period. I have heard of dragons dying after being fed during the winter. This is due to the low temperatures and the animal not being able to digest the food, therefore it rots in the stomach and can kill the lizard. I have been offering food every two weeks...but it is not being touched?? |

RE: WINTER SLOW DOWN?
Hey guys!
I keep bearded dragons as well as NZ natives. It is normal for bearded dragons and water dragons to stop eatin and their activity slow down over winter. This is called burmation, there is lots of information on the internet about this. If you have any other questions just ask! Thanks Jamie |
